A One-pot Process for the Synthesis of Indole and Indole Derivatives

The invention relates to a novel one-pot process for the preparation of indole and derivatives of indole via SN2 type ring opening of aziridine derivatives followed by metal catalyzed C-N cyclization and aromatization. More particularly, it relates to an one-pot process for the preparation of 2-alkyl indole via SN2 type ring opening of 2-(2-haloaryl)-N-activated aziridine derivatives followed by metal catalyzed C-N cyclization and aromatization. Object of the invention is to provide a novel one pot process for the preparation of halogenated 2-alkyl indole derivatives from N-activated aziridine derivatives, also to provide a commercially scalable preparation of indole derivatives in high yield. The process for the synthesis of Indole derivatives is cost-effective and environmentally.
