A Spatially Resolved Reflectance Based Bevelled Optical Fibre Probe for Epithelium Layer Diagnostics

Around 90% of all the cancers in the world arises in the epithelial tissue which covers the internal as well as external organs of the body. Early stages of the cancer are thus detected by changes in the epithelium. A spatially resolved reflectance based bevelled optical fibre probe for epithelium layer diagnostics is provided. The probe includes a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end includes a first hollow elongated cylinder comprising a first radius and a first central axis, a second hollow elongated cylinder comprising a second radius and a second central axis, the second hollow elongated cylinder is located within the first hollow elongated cylinder, wherein the first axis and the second axis are concentric to each other. The proximal end also includes a first set of optical fibres having a first pre-defined diameter value encapsulated within the first hollow elongated cylinder, a second set of optical fibres having a second pre-defined diameter value encapsulated within the second hollow elongated cylinder, a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end is bevelled at a pre-defined angle to diagnose the epithelium layer.
