Low-rate Speech Coding Based on Complex Am and Fm Signal Models

A method and system for low-rate speech coding is disclosed wherein a speech sequence is separated into silence, voiced and unvoiced phonemes. The speech phonemes with low frequency content are treated as a voiced phoneme and subjected to complex AM signal model whereas the speech phonemes with high frequency content are treated as an unvoiced phoneme and subjected to complex FM signal model. Once all the parameters of the phoneme are estimated, the coded word is formed and transmitted or stored for retrieval. The coded word contains complete information for regeneration of speech signal.
