Process for The Synthesis of Quinoxalines

Non-Confidential description of the invention

This invention relates to quinoxalines, and more particularly to process for the synthesis of quinoxalines. Quinoxaline is a colorless oil that melts just above room temperature. The quinoxaline derivatives are used as dyes, pharmaceuticals, and antibiotics such as olaquindox, carbadox, echinomycin, levomycin and actinoleutin. A two-step process for synthesis of quinoxalines from aziridines is provided. The process includes ring-opening of aziridines followed by subjecting the ring-opened products of aziridines to C-N Cyclization-Detosylation-Aromatization cascade.
